Cadaver/HRD Seminar Testimonials

Having spent 4 days of Cadaver training in Montana with Cris Goodhue has been the most rewarding Seminar I have ever been to.Cris is a fantastic trainer who looks at each dog as an individual and applies the training to suit each dog and handler. When my Gordon Setter, Sally, and I started the seminar I could see Sally didn't have a clue what to do but in the first day I saw such a huge improvement thanks to Cris' expertise and patience. That first day the "Light Bulb" went off and Sally continued to improve extremely well. Cris has so much knowledge and a wonderful way of putting it across which makes for a special instructor! I know from past experience how important that basic foundation is! Since I have returned home I have applied what I learned from Chris, and Sally is still improving. I can't tell you how happy I am and I can't wait to go back for more training!!!

Thanks Cris!!!

Liked Seminar 4/8-10, 2011 Los Alamos, NM

I wanted to write a few words on organizing an HRD seminar with Cris Goodhue. We just finished up a great 3 day seminar in Los Alamos, NM. I had contacted Cris via email about teaching an HRD seminar since I had attended a seminar in Wyoming where she taught and thoroughly enjoyed working with her.

We worked together on dates, cost and requirements about 4 months in advance. Cris has taught many seminars so she had the logistics down perfectly. She was to be accompanied by her teammate, Kris Brock, (aka Brock) an assistant instructor who has taught several seminars with Cris. Later Bryan Bennett another teammate offered to come and help with the class. Having both Kris and Bryan turned out to be very helpful because unfortunately Cris encountered a serious medical emergency when she arrived in Los Alamos. Kris and Bryan were able to step in and take over the instruction. Cris had available lecture material, “boxes” and pigeon boards for imprinting and training and a great array of training material. Both Brock and Bryan kept us on our toes setting up challenging problems. They both proved to be very energetic, enthusiastic and knowledgeable instructors. I had limited the number of attendees to 12 (although only 11 could make it) so everyone received numerous problems and a lot of personal attention. I observed that all the dogs made excellent progress over the 3 day seminar. I would strongly recommend contacting Cris Goodhue if you are looking for an excellent instructor that has a great program that is supported by her teammates Kris Brock and Bryan Bennett .

Thank you both so much for the cadaver seminar last week. I always learn so much from you both, and it really helps put everything into perspective for me.  I love watching dogs work the scent boxes and the cadaver board - its a great learning opportunity for me to watch the dogs, handlers, and how you do problem solving.  I could watch that process for weeks on end and never get tired of it (even if I'm really tired!).

Doing the mock search and having Brock talk to me while my dog was making a find really helped a lot. It gave me confidence that my dog will do his job despite my short-comings, and that I have a couple more short-comings to work on!

As I've mentioned in seminars past, I always enjoy feedback, so I really do appreciate being able to travel to other places and work with excellent instructors.  I also appreciate that you have us learn from each other.  I got some really fantastic advice from the other participants, and can't tell you how much it means to be able to learn from so many great handlers at your seminars. Heather & Cathy both gave me words of wisdom to carry with me; Heather about trusting my dog, and Cathy about my job being to help Koga each his full potential and stop worrying about everything else.

Coming out to HCK9 seminars is like taking a deep breath & getting my thoughts together.  And I don't know how you manage it, but the people you attract to your seminars are some of the nicest, most incredible people I have ever met.  Its really a privilege to be able to attend your seminars.

Thank you so much,

I have attended two separate seminars with Cris Goodhue and one was as great as the next. I am “old” to dogs but new to SAR. I first took my dog, Porter, to a Cadaver seminar when he was 10 weeks old, followed by another trip when he was 6 months old. I can not say enough great things about Cris, her work ethic, her knowledge, her adaptability and her generosity. Since I am training my dog primarily in historic human remains detection, it required some tweaking of how the day was scheduled. No problem for Cris! She was easily able to adjust the day’s training events to set up scenarios for my dog.

The accommodations are delightful, the camaraderie really rewarding, and the location……..breathtaking!

We learned a lot on BOTH trips, not only from Cris but from watching the other dogs and their handlers.

What I like best about Cris’s style is her ability to be non judgmental, to allow the owner to assist in the problem solving they are needing, and to do so in a laid back but knowledgeable way. It was a total treat for me AND my dog.

In August of this year (2007) I attended a cadaver seminar instructed by Cris Goodhue. I am currently training my second SAR dog and have been involved with search and rescue for more ten years. There is no other instructor that gives more of themselves than she does. She takes the time to work with everyone within their own level of experience. I came away with tons of knowledge and "working" methods to continue training my dog. I was so pumped after this seminar, I couldn't wait to come and tell my teammates. All the dogs and handlers were ecstatic to see so much improvement in such a short amount of time. Her methods for teaching are outstanding and Cris is forever learning newer and better ways. Thanks for all you give your students!

Cris, I sure wish you lived closer to the east coast. I am forever grateful to you for your wise advises and knowledge, you sure are a generous person and instructor.  You know I will be back next year!!

I am a fairly new dog handler and have attended quite a few seminars put on by High Country K-9.   I have found each one to be full of useful instruction on working on with my dog and where I would like to be as a canine team.  Cris & Janet draw upon their experience in order to come up with the best way for attendees to learn new ideas and resolve difficulties between their canine partners and themselves.  I have always found them to be honest and forthcoming with their opinions and ideas on how to get the best out of the dog team.

The High Country team members have always been very professional and helpful.  They tailor each seminar based on the skill level of the attendees and provide invaluable 1 on 1 instruction to all participants.  I have also met some pretty wonderful participants from all over the country and have learned great ideas from observing them and their dogs on their problems while waiting for my turn.

I would recommend their seminars not only to all dog handlers regardless of specialty, but also to support people who may attend seminars as observers.  They may either be contemplating getting a dog in the future, or want to get a better base of knowledge of how the search dog teams function.
