In 1996 Tammy started a career with the United States Postal Service; her current position is the Postmaster of Bondurant, WY.

Tammy Halstead moved to Wyoming in May, 1990 from Wisconsin where she studied Physical Education / Health. She worked seasonally for Grand Teton National Park for eight summer seasons (1988 - 1995). While working for the Park Service, Tammy worked as a fee collector, wild land fire fighter, and supervised one of the campgrounds. Her second summer with GTNP is when she met Deb Frauson who introduced her to K-9 search and rescue. After years of being a victim and hiding for Deb's dog Loki, Tammy decided to get her own dog, Shadow and later Munger (retired).

Tammy had been involved with Wyoming K-9 Search and Rescue since it was founded in 1992, but left it to join High Country Search Dogs. She has two operational dogs, Palmer and Duke. Tammy has First Aid/CPR, Managing the Lost Person Incident and Man Tracking training.
